Florida's 'Billion Dollar Bed Boom'
Hotel refurbishments, renovations and exciting new developments in the Sunshine State

Florida has seen an 8% increase on visitor figures for the second consecutive year. This year on year growth across the Sunshine State has been a catalyst for a surge of investment, with existing hotels undergoing refurbishments and renovations, brand new hotel openings and exciting future planned developments. This rise is changing the landscape of Florida in 2015 and will continue to do so in the years ahead as Florida undergoes its 'Billion Dollar Bed Boom'.

Below is a snippet of hotel news from some of VISIT FLORIDA's partners, and there's more to come in the next few weeks.

Daytona Beach
The area is in the midst of investing nearly $2 billion including Daytona Beach's first oceanfront rollercoaster, a new planetarium and the world's first oceanfront Hyatt Place. The area offers a wide range of accommodation, many located along the beachfront with direct access to the beach. A new beachside Residence Inn by Marriott Daytona Beach Oceanfront recently opened and the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort Oceanfront Resort has completed a $20+ million renovation. A new Hard Rock Hotel & Cafe and an upscale Westin, both with oceanfront locations, are currently in the planning. The historic Streamline Hotel, an art deco-style property that sits on the very spot where NASCAR was founded, is scheduled to open as an upscale boutique property in 2016.

Greater Fort Lauderdale
With more than $725 million in new hotel development and $222 million in reinvestment and renovations, the Greater Fort Lauderdale hotel landscape has undergone an exciting metamorphosis in 2015 and will continue to in 2016 and beyond. This year the Beachwalk Resort and Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort opened. Looking further ahead, the Tryp Maritime by Wyndham is expected to open in March 2016, and the Gale Boutique Hotel later in 2016. Work on the Four Seasons Hotel & Private Residences Fort Lauderdale is also expected to begin, with an expected 2018 opening.

Sarasota
Sarasota County is seeing nothing short of an explosion of new hotels in the coming years. The Aloft opens in downtown Sarasota in February 2016 and will feature stylish, urban designed rooms. A new Embassy Suites is set to open in late 2016 also in downtown Sarasota. The Westin will be opening a 255-room property featuring a rooftop pool overlooking Sarasota Bay in early 2017. Additionally, The Ritz Carlton has recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation of its bedrooms and communal areas.

LEGOLAND Hotel Florida
Guests wishing to immerse themselves in the creative world of LEGO can now stay onsite at the all-new LEGOLAND Hotel, located just steps from the theme park entrance and featuring 152 themed rooms and suites, some with beautiful sunset views of nearby Lake Eloise. Hotel guests can choose from four uniquely LEGO room themes - Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure and LEGO Friends - and kids can learn LEGO building skills during free, hands-on workshops with Master Model Builders, an experience exclusive to LEGOLAND Florida Resort. For those looking to relax in the Florida sunshine, a colourful outdoor pool awaits.
