Festive fun in the Sunshine State pt. 1

The festive season is sneaking up upon us, and although Florida won't be covered in a blanket of real fluffy white snow this year, there is by no means any shortage of jovial activities being sprinkled across the State. From Cookie Tours of Bed & Breakfast Inns in Amelia Island or the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting in Gainesville to Light Up Lauderdale in Fort Lauderdale or the final chance to see The Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios, there is plenty of fun to be had by the whole family. Here are just a few suggestions from the Sunshine State to get your clients in the holiday spirit...

Amelia Island
A new event this year, Dickens on Centre (December 4-13) will feature carollers, roasting chestnuts and period decor, as merchants and restaurants join in a magical transformation of Centre Street in Amelia Island's historic downtown district.

Tour some of Amelia Island's loveliest, private homes during the Amelia Island Museum of History's annual celebration of the holiday season. Tour hours are offered on two days in December. Guests are shuttled around via trolley. Each home features museum docents who share the history of each spectacular residence.

Amelia Island Holiday Cookie Tour of Bed & Breakfast Inns, enjoy browsing through six inns, each featuring a signature cookie and recipe to take home. Go at your own pace during this self-guided tour of Fernandina's gorgeous inns decked out for the holiday season, and hear about each inn's history. Horse-drawn carriage rides also available.

Gainesville
The Annual Holiday Tree Lighting will take place on December 5 at the Historic Thomas Center where Gainesville Mayor, Ed Braddy, will be on hand to welcome citizens and call for the giant tree to be lit. The free program will run from 6-8 p.m., and will feature carolling by the Singers of the Reformation and the Gainesville Harmony Show Chorus, as well as holiday music on the hammered dulcimer and autoharp by Jim and Joyce Lillquist of the Gypsy Guerrilla Band. Santa will also be on hand to visit with the children. Light refreshments will be served. The heart of the celebration is the holiday decorations on the giant tree and around the building, which are annually provided by the Thomas Center Associates.

Greater Fort Lauderdale
Light Up Lauderdale is a ten week celebration of glittering holiday lights and holiday garland presented by Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and the City of Fort Lauderdale. In its seventh year, this free holiday spectacular showcases the two and half mile brick Riverwalk pathway on both sides of the New River in Downtown Fort Lauderdale and runs daily from November 12, 2015 to January 21, 2016.

Water Taxi has launched an exciting new Water Taxi holiday light tour for twelve nights only this holiday season. The Twelve Nights of Water Taxi Holiday Light Tour will be a special experience with Holiday musical performances by local churches and Christmas Carol sing-alongs. From November 24 to December 16, tours will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Annual Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade sets sail on December 12 for 12 miles starting in downtown Fort Lauderdale heading North to Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach with free viewing along the parade route as well as organized grandstand viewing.

Kissimmee
The free City of Kissimmee Festival of Lights Parade will take place on December 12, 2015 in Historic Downtown Kissimmee celebrating the season with the annual festival of lights parade featuring holiday carollers, strolling entertainers, marching bands, seasonal food and beverages and a special appearance from Santa!

Now Snowing is Central Florida's original and premier 'Snowing' event and offers a schedule filled with surprises. Now Snowing is a month long Winter Wonderland Spectacular in Celebration featuring an ice rink, strolling Charles Dickens Carollers, community performers, photos with Santa, horse drawn carriage rides, the Celebration Express train, and nightly snowfall at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 p.m.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms runs from November 24, 2015 to January 3, 2016 and welcomes guests to marvel at dozens of lavish holiday displays that include more than two million twinkling lights and acres of larger-than-life decorations. Enjoy heart-warming visits with Santa, Cirque Dreams UnWrapped Live Stage Show, ICE! featuring the classic poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' as well as Alpine Rush Snow Tubing, Breakfast with Mrs. Claus, Gingerbread Decorating Corner, The Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt and other exclusive holiday events and attractions to get you in the spirit of the season!

It's the final year to take in the dazzling sight of buildings blanketed in sheets of multi-coloured lights, twirling carousels, heavenly angels and even Santa and his reindeer at The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios. This breath-taking display features millions of glittering lights perfectly synchronized to holiday music and takes place from November 06, 2015 to January 03, 2016.

Christmas Bricktacular at LEGOLAND Florida brings in the holiday season with a 30-foot tall LEGO Christmas tree made of 270,000 LEGO bricks. Every night a family will be chosen to help light the Bricktacular tree and visitors will also have an amazing photo opportunity with a life-size LEGO Santa Claus. Christmas Bricktacular festivities take place every Saturday and Sunday in December.
